Use of Synthetic Preservatives, Genetically Mutated Ingredients
and Weak Animal Welfare Standards Headed for Vote by USDA Panel

Cornucopia, WI—The Cornucopia Institute, one of the nation’s leading organic industry watchdogs, is urging members of the USDA’s National Organic Standards Board (NOSB), in formal testimony, to vote to preserve the integrity of Organic Food and farming at its upcoming meeting in Savannah, Georgia.

Some of the hot button issues on the agenda, including using artificial preservatives and genetically modified ingredients, would seem Orwellian to many longtime organic farmers and consumers. The forecasted dustup will be debated by a USDA panel, deeply divided between corporate agribusiness representatives and organic advocates.

I watched a special on kvie about where our food comes from and it was very disturbing. I already knew it was bad,but to see what they’ve done to the american farmer, patenting seeds?! Back to the question, there are a lot of things that claim they are ‘organic’ yet they are still affiliated with monsanto or those like them. Even Tom’s Organic Toothpaste is owned by Colgate! Tell me what organic companies you love and why. Are any of these places still mom and pop?

Some people believe (like the person above me) everything anyone tells them. Eden is a good company, I mean, its bad enough that our government can’t even tell its’ own citizens what they’re eating! But then to mess with papers and documents in order to alter information so companies like Monsanto, Syngenta, Novartis etc. have the ability to keep their monopoly on the food supply. The fact is, if people don’t want to eat it, then they shouldn’t have to. Doesn’t matter what people want to preach, how does a "free" nation not have this freedom? Eden, bionature (certain products) and other organics at small local stores are your best bet. Also, if you go to

these websites give awesome resources and information. :)

Im on a health diet, and I want something else to drink besides water and orange juice. And also can you tell me how many vitamins it has or calories or whichever.Oh and can you guys give me some suggestions on healthy drinks?

You need to choose juices that have 100% juice and no added sugar. Several "healthy" juices out on the market are juice cocktails, meaning there is added sugar and added calories. Make sure you steer clear of these. You can also check out your local health food or natural food store and get freshly juiced juices.

If you’re not big on juices but want some pizazz to your water you can try some Crystal Light individual pouches that you add to your water bottle. These are fairly low in calories.

This has to be really good!!!!!

Rich coffee chocolate cake
Preparation Time
20 minutes

Cooking Time
90 minutes

Ingredients (serves 25)
Melted butter or margarine, for greasing
400g good quality dark cooking chocolate, chopped
375g unsalted butter, chopped
330g (1 1/2 cups) caster sugar
310mls (1 1/4 cups) freshly brewed strong coffee
3 large eggs, lightly whisked
375g (2 1/2 cups) plain flour
2 tsp baking powder
chocolate glaze
300g good quality dark cooking chocolate, finely chopped
125g unsalted butter, chopped
Method
Preheat oven to 160°C. Brush a 22cm round or 20cm square cake pan with the melted butter or margarine to grease. Line the base of the pan with non-stick baking paper.
Combine the chocolate, butter, caster sugar and coffee in a large saucepan and stir over medium heat until the chocolate and butter have melted and mixture is well combined (see microwave tip). Remove from heat, add the eggs and stir with a whisk until combined. Sift together the flour and baking powder, add to the chocolate mixture and stir with the whisk until smooth.
Pour the mixture into the prepared pan and bake in preheated oven for 1 1/2 hours or until cake crumbs cling to a skewer inserted into the centre of the cake. Stand in pan for 10-20 minutes before turning onto a wire rack to cool.
To make the chocolate glaze, combine the chocolate and butter in a medium heat-resistant bowl and stir over simmering water until the chocolate melts and the mixture is smooth and well combined. Remove from heat.
Trim the top of the cake to form a fiat surface if necessary. Turn the cake upside down and place on a tray. Pour the chocolate glaze evenly over the cooled cake and spread with a spatula. Set the cake aside ill a cool place (but not the fridge as the glaze will lose its gloss) for about 20 minutes or until the glaze has set. Transfer cake to a platter and decorate as desired. For our cover shot, we’ve tied a bow around the candle to give the cake a festive look.
Notes & tips
Suitable for a birthday, father’s day, wedding or any special occasion honouring a chocoholic. This cake gets better with age, becoming more fudgy as the days pass. Serve a sliver with coffee or a larger portion for dessert with fresh berries and thick cream or vanilla ice-cream. It will keep in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week.

I give my daughter organic milk, organic strawberries and few other fruits/veggies. I am wondering how much other mothers out there are using organic products. Sometimes the prices are so high for organic food, I end up buying regular fruits.

I do give Organic Food some of the time, but honestly there is so little risk and the price is a lot better in non-organic products, that it really isn’t worth it. However always make sure you get free range because not only is the meat/eggs better, but its really horrible for the chicken that dies. so personally i would put that as more of a priority, because in reality there is not really that much of a benefit towards organic food.

A friend of mine mixed garlic cloves in grape juice and says it is SUPER healthy for your heart. Is this true?

I doubt it’s super healthy but it’s not bad for you although it probably tastes like crap.

Garlic is very good for you, it’s good for the blood and has some immune system boost.

Grape juice is good for you as well provided it’s taken in moderation. A lot of juices out there have added sugar and even those that are 100% natural do have natural occurring sugars in them. You don’t want to be drinking too many carbs.

organic food Nutrition by Natalie

What is the difference between Organic Food and conventional food? Is organic really more healthy for you?

The USDA lays out certain guidelines that farms have to follow in order to be able to claim the food is organic. In this video Natalie discusses what each of those guidelines are.

What is surprising to learn is some of the growing practices of conventional farming and food processing. As an example, chemical plants and waste water treatment facilities will actually sell their toxic waist to conventional farms to use for fertilizer.

What you eat is an important part of health and nutrition.
